VetSpec Healthy Dog Adult Salmon Formula is an exceptional veterinary-specification supplement in a cereal-grain-free, super premium dog food. It contains 55% salmon, along with added vegetables and herbs. Salmon is a high-quality protein source that is rich in naturally occurring Omega-3 fatty acids, which help maintain healthy joints. This formula is a great option for dogs that prefer an alternative to traditional chicken recipes.

The specialised supplements include biotin and other essential nutrients that enhance coat health and promote supple skin, particularly for dogs with skin issues. Additionally, the prebiotics in the formula support a healthy gut, making it suitable for dogs with sensitive stomachs. This product is free from wheat gluten, artificial colours, preservatives, and flavours.

Ideal for:

  • All adult dogs
  • Dogs with poor coats
  • Dogs with flaky, itchy skin
  • Working dogs requiring a highly nutritious diet
  • Show dogs needing show condition
  • Dogs with sensitive stomachs

Technical Focus - Natural meat levels in a dog’s diet
Contrary to common beliefs on the internet, dogs cannot thrive on a diet consisting solely of muscle tissue. While muscle tissue is high in protein, it lacks essential nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, sodium, iron, copper, iodine, and several vitamins. Although wild ancestors of dogs primarily ate freshly killed meat, they also consumed the entire prey, including bones, organs, and intestinal contents. Most of their prey were herbivores, which meant that the gut contents contained mainly plant-based materials. Therefore, both wild ancestors and domesticated dogs are more accurately classified as omnivores rather than strict carnivores.

Modern research supports this classification, showing that the digestive system of domestic dogs has evolved to better process a higher carbohydrate content as well. As a result, there is a need for balance in creating the ideal diet for dogs, and an appropriate meat content should range between 40 and 60%.
