Technical Focus
Energy Metabolism: The two primary fuels for working muscle are muscle glycogen and fat. In an active dog approximately 70-90% of the energy needed for hard consistent work is derived from fat metabolism (FFAs) through aerobic pathways. Muscle glycogen stores from carbohydrate are however essential to enable dogs to perform fast bursts of energy anaerobically. The fat, carbohydrate and protein in the diet of hard-working dogs must consist of highly digestible ingredients to be effective. High quality protein is also essential to build the muscle structures during growth and fitness training.
