Technical Focus
Growth rates in young dogs: The most rapid period of growth in young dogs occurs during the first six months of life. When they reach maturity they have increased their birth weight by 40- to 50- fold. Supplying a specially formulated puppy and junior diet that has been balanced for growth and development is essential for the attainment of optimum adult size. Young animals benefit from feeding energy and nutrient dense diets because the volume of feed intake need not be excessive and intake will not be limited by the animal’s stomach.
